Diva Designer: Erin Kleinberg

Diva Designer: Erin Kleinberg

I'm always proud to share a hometown designer, and even one close to my age. First discovered by giving Mischa Barton one of her homemade scarf inspired tops at a Toronto H&M, gaining free exposure, Erin Kleinberg began to be noticed.

She launched her first collection in the summer of 2008. Her goal with her collection was to bridge the gap with semi-couture tanks, tees, and novelty pieces. Her clothes are now sold across Canada, US, and internationally.

She has been also featured in numerous publications, with celebrities raving about her couture yet simple clothing.

Here is a preview of her Spring collection:

I love the simplicity of her collection, yet each piece is unique and glamorous.

Web&Fashion: Links a la Mode

Style vs Fashion

Edited by Retro Chick

With the Fashion Week season in full swing and Fashion Pulse Daily live blogging from the IFB conference it can be easy to forget that there are other things going on in the world, where real women are shopping and dressing for real occasions.

There were actually surprisingly few Fashion Week oriented posts submitted this week. Possibly the Fashion Week attendees are still too busy to partake in Links á la Mode, but what I did find was a lot of posts focused on fashion, style and image in the real world. A Typical Atypical calls for a low fashion revolution and Idiosyncratic Style urges you to bring out your cocktail frocks for every day. Meanwhile, in the body image arena Intrinsically Florrie learns to love her specs, Sugar & Spice discusses tanning and Mariels Castle weighs in (see what I did there?) on the body size debate.

It would be impossible to leave this weeks links without mentioning the untimely and incredibly sad death of Alexander McQueen. There were posts submitted on this issue but I made the decision not to include them, not because they were bad, but because I felt that if I included one persons post I would need to include them all. There has been so much personal reflection on the life and designs of this amazing man in the fashion blogging world that to choose a small selection seemed impossible. If you would like to read these posts then, as ever, the full list of submissions is available in the forums.

Stop'n'Style: Olympic Gear

Stylish Olympic Gear by Aritzia

On February 12th, the winter Olympics began in my home country, Canada. For 16 days, the best athletes around the world will compete in Vancouver, British Columbia. Glued to the TV for 2 weeks, I love watching moguls, ski jumping, figure skating, and hockey. Pretty much everything.

With 3 medals already, I wish the best of luck to all Canadian athletes, and other countries around the world competing!

Even if you are not at the games, a great way to show your spirit is to dress in representative Canadian gear. Aritzia, a store born in Vancouver, but located across Canada, has great Olympic gear in stores for fashionistas to help cheer on Canada.

Show your team spirit with:

GO CANADA GO!!

Bakerella: The Queen of Baked Goods

I am always mesmerized by bakers who create lavish desserts. Yesterday, I stumbled upon this blog called Bakerella. She creates cupcakes, cakes, brownies, breakfast foods, cheesecake, pie, cookies, and other desserts. However, they are not your ordinary baked goods. She makes cake pops, cake balls, and cupcake pops.

Bakerella is my idol!!

Chocolate Cookie Dough Brownies

Pie Pops

Red Velvet Cake Balls

Cheesecake Pops

Oreo Kisses

Chocolate Cupcake Pops

She also gives recipes on how to make everything.

I suggest you visit the blog: http://www.bakerella.com

Diva Designer: Karina Grimaldi

Karina Grimaldi

Only starting out in 2001, KG moved from Buenos Aires to Miami to start her own clothing line. Her collection features bright, glowing colours, which is influenced from the Sunshine state. Her Spring collection features dresses, tops, rompers, and jumpsuits which are detailed in their own unique ways, and highly feminine.

On my hunt to discover some great designers, Karina Grimaldi will be the first of my "diva designers" column.

Stop'n'Style: Swim

Summer 2010: Ruffled Swimwear

There is one thing I can never get enough of: bathing suits. It might be because I love thinking about sitting in the sun and relaxing, but I also love seeing the newest trends in swimwear. I am heading to Miami in a week for my Spring Break, and can't wait to relax and get some colour on my pale, pale body.

Ruffles are one of my favourite trends this season. Here are some of the suits I've had my eye on...

J. Crew. $96

Victoria's Secret. $39

Shoshanna. $180

Shoshanna. $176

Victoria's Secret. $68

Juicy Couture. $139

What's your ideal bathing suit? Happy tanning!
