Web&Fashion: Links a la Mode

Style vs Fashion

Edited by Retro Chick

With the Fashion Week season in full swing and Fashion Pulse Daily live blogging from the IFB conference it can be easy to forget that there are other things going on in the world, where real women are shopping and dressing for real occasions.

There were actually surprisingly few Fashion Week oriented posts submitted this week. Possibly the Fashion Week attendees are still too busy to partake in Links á la Mode, but what I did find was a lot of posts focused on fashion, style and image in the real world. A Typical Atypical calls for a low fashion revolution and Idiosyncratic Style urges you to bring out your cocktail frocks for every day. Meanwhile, in the body image arena Intrinsically Florrie learns to love her specs, Sugar & Spice discusses tanning and Mariels Castle weighs in (see what I did there?) on the body size debate.

It would be impossible to leave this weeks links without mentioning the untimely and incredibly sad death of Alexander McQueen. There were posts submitted on this issue but I made the decision not to include them, not because they were bad, but because I felt that if I included one persons post I would need to include them all. There has been so much personal reflection on the life and designs of this amazing man in the fashion blogging world that to choose a small selection seemed impossible. If you would like to read these posts then, as ever, the full list of submissions is available in the forums.

Techie Girl: Laptop Cases

Laptop Cases A La Mode

I love my MacBook. It is probably my favourite electronic, besides my Blackberry. If you are carrying your laptop, why not use a trendy case to put it in?

Personally, I am using a pink incase sleeve - it's a fun colour and protects my computer!

It also comes in orange, blue, black, red, and many more.

Betsey Johnson is known for her unique collections of clothing and shoes. This is definitely a fun accessory to add to an outfit.

If you're willing to spend a little more money, these Louis Vuitton laptop cases are sophisticated and fashionable. The case is probably almost as expensive as your computer...

This Marc by Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve is pretty reasonable. It has quilted logo lettering and an enameled logo plate. It is also available in a leopard print.

This simple, yet chic Juicy Couture laptop case is great because it has handles and a shoulder strap. It is a little more expensive, but also has pockets to store things other than just your laptop.

Web&Fashion: StyleCaster

StyleCaster - Discover your Style!!

Since the beginning of June, I was in NYC - the most wonderful city on the planet. I had an internship at
StyleCaster, the first style discovery platform website. I was a fashion intern, and got the opportunity to write a couple articles, style outfits, and meet a lot of amazing people in the fashion world.

Once you sign up, you will get daily emails with the temperature of your chosen city and an outfit suiting the weather. The site features news, daily looks, shop section, community, forecast, and video. I think it's pretty amazing, and I'm not being bias just because I worked there. They recently created a widget - which is super cool! You simply input your city and it shows the temperature and an outfit to wear (it's posted on the side of my blog ---->)

All of my friends that I told about StyleCaster LOVE the site, and go on it several times per day. Here is the link to sign up, CLICK HERE!

Go check it out! Let me know your thoughts!
